TAHLEQUAH, Okla. – Southeastern was hit by a dry spell over the final 4:29 of the game while Northeastern State scored the final seven points to hand the Savage Storm a 45-40 loss on Wednesday night in Tahlequah, Okla.

The Savage Storm will be back in action at 4 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 24, when it faces Texas A&M-Commerce in Bloomer Sullivan Arena.

Southeastern struggled shooting at times, hitting 29.3 percent from the field, but their daunting defense kept the game close as the Riverhawks were held to just 29.8 percent shooting.

Darrel Hicks paced the Storm with 13 points, including SE’s lone three-point bucket, while Williams Slones pitched in 10 points.

Slones completed the double-double with 10 rebounds, while Chibuzo Elonu was one shy of double-figures at nine.

Mychal Horn dished out five assists, while Elonu and Jordan Lee each tallied three.

Slones finished the night with a pair of blocks, while SE combined for 11 steals.

SE got on the board first and built that early lead to as many as seven points which was either team’s largest lead of the contest, coming at 9-2 with 10:44 to play in the opening half.

NSU would whittle that lead down and eventually tie the contest, but the Storm held off the charge and took a 21-17 lead to the locker room at halftime.

SE maintained the lead early in the second half until a 10-0 Riverhawk run would turn a five-point lead into a five-point Storm deficit.

The Storm would eventually tie and the retake the lead, holding a 40-38 advantage with 4:29 to play before hitting the aforementioned scoring drought.
