EDMOND, Okla. – In a Tuesday afternoon that featured just two total runs and 17 innings of softball, Southeastern picked up a key split against Central Oklahoma, dropping the opener, 1-0, but surviving a 10 inning nail-biter in the nightcap for their own 1-0 win.

The win in game two ensures that the Savage Storm will advance to the Lone Star conference postseason tournament May 6-9 at the Durant Multi-Sports Complex.

Southeastern will next be in action at 2 p.m. on May 1 when it hosts Central Oklahoma in the regular season finale at the Southeastern Softball Field for Senior Day.

In a day of pitching performances, Amanda Tanner stole the show putting on a clinic over her second complete-game shutout of the season.

Fresh off an LSC-N Pitcher of the Week honor, Tanner dialed in to the tune of 10.0 innings pitched, allowing four hits and a total of seven base runners, only two of which advanced past second base, with one of those being the international tie breaker runner in the 10th inning.

Tanner worked her magic on 176 pitches, striking out three and tossing a mix of ground (14) and fly (13) outs, moving to 11-11 on the year.

Ryan Allen turned in the game’s only multi-hit performance, finishing 2-for-3, and as if her pitching performance was not enough, Tanner provided the game’s lone run on a sacrifice fly that plated Jeana Keys, and the game’s lone extra-base hit, a double in the sixth inning.

On the game SE stranded 11 runners, while UCO left nine.

The winning run came with two outs in the top of the 10th inning.  Keyes started the inning at second base per the ITB rules and moved to third on an Allen single up the middle before scoring two batters later of Tanner’s sac fly.

In the opener, SE’s Ashley Smith came out on the wrong side of a 1-0 pitcher’s duel, despite allowing just five hits and striking out four.

Smith’s lone run allowed came on a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the third inning.  No other runner would advance past second base until the sixth inning.

Smith allowed four of her five hits to the top one-third of the order, holding the bottom six in UCO’s lineup to a 1-for-11 game.

Erika Bernal turned in SE’s only multi-hit outing in the game, going 2-for-3 with a double, while Jeana Keyes, Ryan Allen, Tanner, Cassy Tice and Mandi Worthington each had a hit.

SE twice got runners to third and a third time had a player thrown out at home with the bases-loaded.  In all, the Storm stranded eight runners.
