Keith Baxter, who served as the University¹s head football coach from 2001-2004, has been named Director of Intercollegiate Athletics at Southeastern Oklahoma State University.
A native of Holdenville. Oklahoma, Baxter was a standout quarterback at Northwestern Oklahoma State University, where he earned bachelor and master¹s degrees. He began his coaching career as a graduate assistant at his alma mater, and then moved to New Mexico State, where he served as defensive backs coach in 1987-88. Baxter joined the Southeastern staff in 1989 as offensive coordinator.
He assumed the head coaching duties in 2001 and compiled a 25-16 record over his four years. His 2004 squad was the Lone Star Conference North Division co-champion and advanced to the NCAA Division II playoffs.
Baxter and his wife Teenie are the parents of two daughters, Ashley and Kaylie.
“Southeastern has always been like home to us,” Baxter said. “I am looking forward to returning to the University in this role and I appreciate the confidence and support of President Turner. The people at Southeastern have always been special, and I think that is the University¹s greatest strength. There are so many positive things happening at Southeastern and I am truly honored to be a part of it.”
