Football (1986-89)

David Hall, a native of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma is considered one of the best defensive linemen to ever play college football in Oklahoma.

Hall, who was named to the Daily Oklahoman’s All-Century Oklahoma College Football Team, was born on August 23, 1968, in Oklahoma City. Hall played high school football at Oklahoma City Millwood, where as a senior he led the Falcons to a 14-1 season and a trip to the state semifinals. His efforts earned him All-State honors and a trip to the Oil Bowl, which pits the best in Oklahoma against the best in Texas.

David spent his days at Southeastern playing under head coaches Jon Lantz and Morris Sloan and was a four-year starter. He helped lead the Savages to a pair of Oklahoma Intercollegiate Conference titles, a trip to the NAIA Division I playoffs in 1988m and an invitation to the Aztec Bowl in Mexico City, Mexico, in 1989.

He was a major contributor as Southeastern earned a pair of No. 5 defensive rankings in 1988 and 1989. He was a key player in the Savages’ 10-game winning streak that culminated in a 21-14 overtime win over then No. 1 ranked Central Arkansas in the national playoffs. He also led the Savages to a 22-10 victory in the 1989 Aztec Bowl.

Hall left a mark at Southeastern, becoming the school’s all-time tackles leader with 271 and the career sacks leader with 36 for a loss of 193 yards. In all, he had 65 career tackles for a loss of 307 yards during his four-year stay at the University. In 1988 Hall tied former teammate Elmar Perry for the single season quarterback sack record with 12.

During his junior and senior seasons, he earned first team All-Oklahoma Intercollegiate Conference, first team NAIA All-District 9, and first team NAIA All-American honors. He was twice named OIC Defensive Player of the Year (1988 and 1989) and was named the NAIA District 9 Defensive Player of the Year in 1989. In addition, he was selected as Southeastern’s Athlete of the Year for 1989-90. In 1989 his teammates named Hall a team captain as well as the Savage Co-Most Valuable Player.

David Hall definitely made his mark at Southeastern. His efforts on the gridiron brought recognition for himself, for the Savage football program, and for Southeastern. The University honored him with membership in the Southeastern Athletic Hall of Fame on January 15, 2000.
