Football (1973-76)
A two-way standout in high school, Eddie Scott was recruited to play defense at Southeastern. But due to his unselfishness as a football player and the willingness to fill whatever role was needed, he became one of the Savages’ premiere offensive linemen of all-time.
Born on January 26, 1954, in Honey Grove, Texas, Eddie earned All-District and All-State Honors in high school. He was also a success on the basketball court as well as in track and field events at Honey Grove High School.
Eddie was recruited to Southeastern by Hall of Fame Coach Duke Christian in 1973 and quickly took over a starting role on the offensive line. During his playing days, he earned All-Oklahoma Intercollegiate Conference honors on three occasions. After his senior season, Scott was names NAIA Second Team All-America, voted most valuable player on the Savage squad, and named the SOSU Most Outstanding Athlete of the Year.
Scott’s most memorable moment as a Savage came during Southeastern’s 35-34 win over rival East Central as a senior in 1976. With Scott blocking up front, the Savages were able to run a sweep to the right side for the game-winning two-point conversion that helped propel Southeastern to an OIC title.
His post-college years were filled with coaching Little League Football, basketball, and baseball. In 1983, Scott participated in the Taiwan Games where he earned a gold medal in the shot put.
Scott’s performances on and off the field have been extraordinary. His successes have earned recognition for himself and Southeastern. The University honored him with membership in the Southeastern Athletic Hall of Fame on February 12, 2005.
