Baseball (1978-82)

Gregg Legg was born April 21, 1960 in San Jose, California. He graduated from Duncan High School in 1978 and was recruited to Southeastern Oklahoma State University by baseball coach Dr. Don Parham. He played two years under Coach Parham and two years under Coach Mike Metheny.

Legg had an outstanding career as a member of the nationally ranked Savage baseball team. He played on four teams that made it to the NAIA College World Series. He was selected to the All-OIC team and the NAIA All-District 9 team in 1980, 1981, and 1982. He was a NAIA All-American twice, in 1980 and again in 1982.

He was the Savages shortstop over a three year period and no one ever played it better. The Savages had a 209-40 win-lose record during his four year career. He set several school records.

Legg signed a professional contract with the Philadelphia Phillies in 1982 and played in their system, mostly at the AAA level, until he became a minor league coach for the Phillies in 1994. He played briefly in the major leagues where he hit over .400.

Greg Legg was one of the most outstanding players among the many great players who established and maintained the great Savage baseball tradition. Southeastern named him a member of the Athletic Hall of Fame on January 27, 1996.
