Basketball (1951-55)
Jerry Hall was born January 4, 1933 in Tushka, Oklahoma. His career, stretching from his school boy days at Tushka, through four years with Coach Bloomer Sullivan’s Savage basketball team, and over a thirty one year career in coaching and school administration has made him one of Southeastern Oklahoma’s best known sports figures.
Hall had an outstanding prep career playing for Coach Ross Smith’s Tushka Tigers. He was recruited to Southeastern by Coach Sullivan following his high school graduation in 1951, he had a great four year college basketball career. He earned his first letter as a freshman and was then named to the Oklahoma Collegiate Conference All-Conference team three consecutive years.
He played on two conference championship teams. The Savages reached the NAIA National Championship Tournament in Kansas City in both Hall’s junior and senior years and he was named to the All-National Tournament when the Savages reached the finals in 1955. He was a key player on the three Savage teams during a golden age in Southeastern basketball. He was an outstanding scorer and superb passer.
Following graduation from Southeastern he coached two years at Valliant before returning to Tushka High School where he remained as basketball coach for twenty five years.
Jerry Hall was an outstanding basketball player who had a sparkling four year career under Coach Bloomer Sullivan. Throughout his years as an athlete, coach, and educator he has distinguished himself in such a manner as to bring great honor to Southeastern Oklahoma State University. The university honored Jerry Hall on February 8, 1992, by inducting him into the Athletic Hall of Fame.
