Golf (1972-76)

Kent Samuel played golf for Southeastern Oklahoma State from 1972-1976, earning accolades for his work on the golf course as well as his work in the classroom.

While at Southeastern he earned the program’s first-ever all-conference award, earning All-Oklahoma Intercollegiate Conference honors after finishing runner-up in the OIC Golf Championship as a freshman.

He was selected as the golf team’s most valuable player in three straight seasons in 1973, 1974 and 1975, joining a small group of Southeastern legends to earn the right to make that claim.

He was named Southeastern’s Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year three times in-a-row, joining just two others on the men’s or women’s side to have achieved that feat. Samuel was the first to win the honor multiple times.

Samuel graduated in 1976 and pursued a career in business, but never gave up the sport that he played so well for Southeastern.

He still competes regularly, averaging 25-to-30 tournaments per year. He has also maintained his success, including multiple top-10 finishes at senior events throughout the country.

Kent Samuel, throughout his years as an athlete and a businessman, excelled to a level that brings great honor to Southeastern Oklahoma State University. The University honored him with membership in the Southeastern Oklahoma State Athletics Hall of Fame on August 25, 2012.
