LORI DAWN ALEXANDER supplied the big bat as the first true home run hitter for Southeastern softball.
The 1993 graduate of Oklahoma City Western Heights earned was named Oklahoma Slowpitch Player of the Year and inducted into the Softball Hall of Fame in Oklahoma City in 1990, her sophomore year in high school.
After high school she spent her first two seasons at Eastern State College where she earned National Junior College Athletics Association All-America honors and was the 1995 Player of the Year before transferring to Southeastern.
As a junior in 1996, Alexander connected on 19 home runs at Southeastern, setting a single-season record that Kelly Baker tied in 1999. She added 18 more as a senior to claim the career record with 37 in only two years of playing time and that helped her to NAIA All-America honors.
Alexander’s first team at Southeastern was 37-23 and one win away from the NAIA national tournament.
Coach Ron Faubion took over the Southeastern softball program in Lori’s senior year of 1996 and that season she would go on to earn All-America honors while helping SE to a 52-9 record and a trip to the NAIA College World Series.
Her two years at Southeastern saw her named All-America, All-Conference, All-Region, and twice earn Player of the Week honors en route to conference championships in both NAIA and NCAA Division II.
Alexander holds five single season offensive records overall and is tied for or holds two of the biggest marks in the record book with 19 home runs in a single season, a record she holds alongside Kelly Baker, while also connecting on a career-high 37 homers.
Now a native of Sun City, Arizona, She continues to play for a pair travel teams, Mizuno, sponsored by Mizuno, out of Houston, Texas, and the Broken Dollz out of southern California.
Alexander, through her efforts on and off the field, excelled to a level that brings great honor to Southeastern Oklahoma State University. The University honors her today, August 18, 2018, with membership in the Southeastern Oklahoma State Athletics Hall of Fame.
