Coach - Women's Tennis, Basketball and Volleyball; Administrator

Vicki Hudson brought modern women’s basketball to Southeastern Oklahoma State after beginning the program in its current form and is still an integral part of the athletics department as the Senior Woman Administrator while also serving as the chair of the Health, Physical Education and Recreation department.
 
She spent 10 years guiding the women’s basketball program, compiling a 96-55 record over her last six seasons, the only ones for which records were kept.
 
Her teams advanced to four region tournaments and hosted the Association for Intercollegiate Athletics for Women (AIAW) National Tournament in 1980, the same season she was named the Coach of the Year.
 
She also helped usher in the era of the female scholarship athlete at the University, coaching her final two seasons with financial aid, going 47-15 over that stretch.
 
Her program building did not stop with basketball, as she also started the women’s tennis program, serving as its first coach from its inception in 1978 until 1993.
 
She earned District 9 Coach of the Year honors on the tennis court in 1990 and her 1991 squad claimed the regional championship.
 
Program building was not her only game and at one time or another she coached every sport except football and baseball, including a stint coaching the cheerleaders.
 
In 1998 she was presented with the Pathfinder Award, given to women who have been leaders in the development and recognition of women’s athletic programs by the National Association for Girls and Woman in Sport.
 
Her career in the classroom is just as impressive as her work on the courts, and has earned numerous awards for her work in health, physical education and recreation.  In 1995 she was awarded the Honor Award from the Oklahoma Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance, the highest honor the association bestows.
 
Vicki Hudson, throughout her years as an athlete and educator has brought great honor to Southeastern Oklahoma State University.  The University honored her with membership in the Southeastern Oklahoma State Athletics Hall of Fame on August 28, 2010.
