Storm Tumble in Season Opener

Box Score DURANT, Okla. – Turnovers proved to be costly for Southeastern in its season opener in a 99-77 loss at the hands of Oklahoma Christian on Friday night in Edmond, Okla.

The loss set the Savage Storm off to an 0-1 start to the year for the first time since the 2007-08 season.

SE committed 33 turnovers on the night which dampened the efforts of a 43.5 percent shooting night.

While shooting well from the floor overall, the Storm struggled from long range with a 1-for-7 outing and had issues form the free throw line as well hitting 22-of-37 to finish at 59.5 percent.

There were some bright spots on the contest as freshman Breana Small-Peppers paced the SE offense off the bench with 22 points on 80 percent shooting.

Ronay English chipped in a 12 point effort, while newcomers Emily Williams, Taylor Richards and Demi Koelzer added nine, six and six points, respectively.

The Storm got 51 points off the bench, but allowed 34 points off turnovers.

Williams and English each pulled down a team high six rebounds, while Small-Peppers added five boards and SE tallied 43 as a team.

Williams, English and Richards each dished out three assists.

The Storm fell behind 7-0 early and spent most of the first half fighting back, finally tying the game at 19-19 with 10:50 to play in the half.

OC would score the next five points and would not get any closer than one point over the remainder of the half, falling behind 45-34 at the halftime break.

That deficit would grow to 15 early in the half before a 7-0 SE run would cut the gap to 53-45 three and a half minutes into the second half.

The Eagles, however, would answer and push its advantage back out to double-digits where it would stay for the rest of the game before settling on the final of 99-77
