SE Men Set for HSU, OBU

DURANT, Okla. – The Southeastern men's basketball team will look to recover from back-to-back overtime road losses when it opens Great American Conference play this weekend, facing Henderson State on Nov. 29 and Ouachita Baptist on Dec. 1, both in Arkadelphia, Ark.
 
Thursday game against the Reddies is slated for 7:30 p.m., while Saturday's contest against the Tigers is set for 4 p.m.
 
The Savage Storm reeled of a 4-0 start to the 2012-13 season before falling on tough times at the Glenn Young Invitational in Owensboro, Ky., falling to Shaw and Concordia, both in overtime.
 
The 4-2 start to the season has been fueled by an offense that is averaging 85.3 ppg and posted 124 points in the opening contest of the season, as well as a defense that has held opponents to 70.7 ppg and has a margin of victory of nearly 15 points.
 
That offense is paced by a group of four players averaging in double-digits, with two other coming off the bench that average 9.5 or greater.
 
Steven Kohli is pacing the club with 15.5 ppg, while Chris Roussell is right on his heels at 14.5 ppg.
 
Travis Timmons and Mateus Oliveira are averaging 11.2 and 10.5 ppg, respectively, and round out the other two players that have started all six games thus far along with Kohli and Roussell.
 
James Harris and Andris Misters have been sparks off the bench, with Harris averaging 9.8 ppg on the strength of a 15-of-31 shooting performance from three point range, while Misters is at 9.5 ppg.
 
The Storm also hold a near 10 rebound advantage on the glass as a team, led by Kohli who is averaging 8.0 rpg, while Roussell is right behind with 7.8.
 
Timmons has run the point to near perfection on the year so far, dishing out a league leading 9.2 assists per game that included a school-record 16 helpers in the season opener.  He also boasts a 2.9 assist-to-turnover ratio on the year and is fifth in the GAC with 2.3 ste3als per game.
 
HSU comes into the weekend at 4-0 on the season after cruising to a win over Central Baptist 10 days ago.
 
The Reddies feature five players averaging in double-figures, paced by Melvin Haynes who is scoring 16.3 ppg on the season.
 
On the boards Cory Henshall leads the team with 8.0 rebounds per outing, while Andrew Ensley is adding 6.3 per game.
 
Jonathon Fitzgerald leads the team with 5.0 assists per game on the year and averages over two steals per outing.
 
The Tigers enter the weekend's games at 3-1 on the year, but are coming off an 81-77 upset of Midwestern State in its last game out.
 
A trio of scorers average in double-figures for OBU, led by Austin Mitchell who is scoring 14.5 ppg on the year for a team averaging 82.2 ppg.
 
Michael Morris handles the heavy lifting on the glass with a team-best 7.0 rpg.
 
Michah Delph is averaging just over four assists per game, while Nigel Ramsey is averaging 4.0 exactly.
