DURANT, Okla. – After opening the season with a win over Texas A&M-Commerce will continue its run of Texas opponents when it takes to the road for the first time this season for the Comfort Inn Presents Ashbrook Classic Nov. 15-16 in Wichita Falls, Texas, hosted by Midwestern State.
SE opens with Texas-Permian Basin at 5 p.m. on Nov. 15, and will wrap up its trip with an 8 p.m. meeting with the host Mustangs on Nov. 16.
The Savage Storm opened its 2013-14 campaign with an 85-83 win over A&M-C opn Tuesday and
Cheree Kiser led the way dropping a game-high 20 points off the bench on 6-of-14 shooting with three three-point buckets and a 5-for-5 mark from the free throw line.
Breana Small-Peppers was right behind her with a 19 point outing, while completing the double-double with a team-high 16 rebounds.
Ronay English turned in 13 points, while
Haley Schaefer added 12 and
Emily Williams dropped in 10.
SE out-shot the Lions 45.7 percent-to-36.0 percent, thanks in large part to a 53.1 percent effort in the second half.
Small-Peppers' 16 rebounds led the Storm on the glass, while Williams turned in seven rebounds and the duo of Kiser and
Shelby Hill each added five.
Taylor Richards dished out a team-best five assists in the effort, while Williams and Kiser each added four and the Storm held a 21-to-16 edge in helpers.
UTPB will be playing its first regular season contest of the season when the teams square off on Friday night, with their only official action coming in a 75-56 loss at Texas- El Paso in an exhibition contest.
The Falcons did get 18 points from Giselle Loya in that matchup against DI UTEP, with all six of her buckets coming from beyond the arch, while Valerie Barriga added 12. No other UTPB player scored more than four points.
Three different players hauled in five rebounds each ad the Falcons were outrebounded by a 52-to-37 margin.
The Mustangs are 1-2 to open the season, with a 70-57 win over Colorado State-Pueblo to open the year at the Adams State Bankers Classic in Colorado, but have since dropped meeting with Adams State, 64-56, and Texas A&M-International, 84-75.
MSU is led by Andrea Carter through three games as she is posting 14.3 ppg, while Dianna Jones is averaging 11.7 and Lisa Hampton is right behind at 11.0 ppg.
Carter also paces the team on the glass and is just shy of averaging a double-double with 9.3 rebounds per outing.
Kirsti Degelia leads the team in assists with 3.3 assists per game.
