Box Score DURANT, Okla. – Southeastern rallied from a slow start on Thursday night, but saw its comeback fall just short in a 73-71 loss to Northwestern Oklahoma State in Bloomer Sullivan Arena.
The loss drops the Savage Storm to 12-10 on the season overall and 8-8 in Great American Conference play heading ingot Saturday's 7:30 p.m. meeting with Southwestern Oklahoma State.
James Harris came off the bench to provide a second-half spark, finishing the night with 17 points on the strength of a 5-for-7 performance from behind the arc.
Chris Roussell finished the game with 16 points, while
Mateus Oliveira turned in 11.
The Storm finished the contest shooting 45.8 percent, but used a 66.7 percent second-half effort to overcome a slow start.
Oliveira led the way on the glass in the contest, rounding out a double-double with 10 rebounds.
Quinton Threadgill turned in a season-best eight assists, while Roussell dished out five.
The game got off to a very slow start with NWOSU hitting a three in the first minute and SE answering at the 18 minute mark with a Threadgill layup.
Neither team would score again until
Steven Kohli hit a layup off an
Andris Misters pass with 12:02 to play in the first.
SE would then go up three on a Roussell bucket, but the Rangers would answer with a 6-0 run to take the lead.
The Storm would tie the game three times over the final eight minutes of the half, but NWOSU would take a 26-21 lead to the locker room.
Southeastern trailed by nine points with 8:21 to play and slowly chipped away at the deficit until a Harris three with 2:14 to play cut the gap to 61-60.
NWOSU, however, would answer with five-straight points and SE would get no closer than two points down the stretch, including Threadgill's three at the buzzer that set the 73-71 final score.
