Big Second Half Leads SE past SAU

Box Score MAGNOLIA, Ark. – Southeastern erased a halftime deficit and reeled off a 51 point second-half effort to pick up an 89-80 win over Southern Arkansas on Saturday afternoon in Magnolia, Ark.
 
The win lifts the Savage Storm to 9-12 on the season and 7-8 in Great American Conference play.
 
SE put four players in double figures with a big night out of Emily Williams who turned in a career-high 26 points in the win on a 10-for-16 shooting night.
 
She was joined in double-digits by Cheree Kiser off the bench who turned in 17 on an 8-of-11 effort.
 
Bailey Welch added 15 points on the strength of a 13-for-14 effort from the free throw line.
 
Haley Schaefer rounded out the SE scorers in double-figures with 14.
 
Welch also dished out a team-high four assists.
 
Williams and Taylor Richards led the team on the glass with eight rebounds each as SE held a 46-to-40 edge in rebounding.
 
The Storm did most of its work inside, holding a 58-14 advantage in point in the paint.
 
SE jumped out to an 8-0 lead and by the 15:15 mark had built the advantage to 14-4.
 
The lead would grow to 12 points with 11:39 to play in the half on a Williams' jumper, but SAU would outscore the Storm 19-7 to tie the game at 28-28 with 5:44 remaining in the half.
 
SE would briefly go back in front by two on a Ronay English jumper, but a 13-4 Mulerider run would give SAU a 41-34 lead before finally putting the Storm in a 43-38 hole at the half.
 
Southeastern would whittle away at the deficit before tying the game at 49-49 on a Kiser free throw with 13:21 to play.
 
SE would take the lead, but the teams would then trade bucket before the Storm opened up a four-point lead with 11:04 remaining.
 
The Southeastern lead would fluctuate between one and six points until a 7-0 run powered by Kiser and Schaefer pushed the lead to 79-69 with 2:33 to play.
 
The Storm would hold on for the 89-80 win.
