Southeastern Cruises in Home Opener

DURANT, Okla. – Southeastern got a monster night from Olivia Potter to spark a runaway 87-49 victory in the home opener over Arlington Baptist on Monday night in Bloomer Sullivan Arena.

The win lifts the Savage Storm to 3-0 on the young season heading into the Great American Conference opener on Nov. 20 at 5:30 p.m. against Henderson State in Arkadelphia, Ark.

Potter turned in a career-high 26 points off the bench shooting 9-12 from the floor and 8-10 from behind the arc, finishing one-three shy of the GAC record for threes in a game.

She was joined in double-figures by Emily Williams with 14 points and Shelby Hill with 12,

The Storm offense clicked after a slow start as the team shot 42.0 percent from the floor and 48.8 percent from long range, hitting 20-of-41 threes.

SE also dished out 25 assists combined, led by four each from Williams and Rachel Wallace, while Hill, Kaylie Baxter and Madison Thames each dished out three.

Not to be outdone, however the Storm defense held the Patriots to 29.5 percent shooting from the floor and forced 20 turnovers while collecting 14 steals.

SE also hauled in 50 rebounds and out-rebounded ABC by 10 board, led by the nine from Baxter, while Wallace and Miranda Schaefer each added six and Potter chipped in five.

The Storm got off to a slow start, trailing 4-1 early and not taking its first lead until the 15:00 mark when Williams hit a three to go up 7-6.

SE would eventually break a 9-9 tie with six-straight points, but the Patriots would answer and regain the lead at 19-15 with 7:38 to go in the half.

The Storm would reel off a 30-7 run over the final seven minutes to take control of the game and lead 45-26 at the break.

SE then scored the first seven points of the second half and never looked back, taking a 58-28 lead on a Williams three with 16:47 to play and eventually going up 73-33 on a Potter layup with 12:51 to play before settling on an 87-49 victory.
