MAGNOLIA, Ark. – Southeastern got a conference-record tying nine threes from Olivia Potter as the Savage Storm pulled away for its fifth-straight win to open the season, downing Southern Arkansas in Magnolia, Ark., 72-48 non Saturday afternoon.

SE moved to 5-0 on the season and 2-0 in Great American Conference play heading into a Nov. 25 contest against St. Gregory's at 5:30 p.m.

Potter was lights out in the contest, hitting 9-14 from the field, all from behind the arc, matching the conference record for threes in the game and finishing with 27 points.

Emily Williams finished the game with 14 points, while Taylor Richards added 10.

Richards also dished out a game-high six assists, while Kaylie Baxter turned in four.

The Storm shot 48.3 percent from the field and 48.0 percent from long-range, hitting 12 threes as a team in the game.

The defense held SAU to 31.1 percent shooting and just three three-pointers, while holding a 45-to-34 edge on the glass led by eight boards from Baxter, while Richards and Rachel Wallace pulled down four each.

It was another slow start for SE ad the teams clawed to a 5-5 tie by the 14-30 mark of the first half.

The teams traded buckets and the Storm trialed by two at 10-8 with 12:33 to go in the first half.

A Potter three would give the SE the lead and spark an 11-0 run that opened up a 19-10 lead for Southeastern.

SAU would close the gap to six points before a Cheree Kiser layup with 7:09 remaining set off a 15-0 run that gave the Storm a 35-13 edge and SE would take a 40-21 lead into the break at halftime.

The Muleriders would trim the deficit back down to 13 points early in the second half, but The Storm would answer and push it back to 20 points at the 9:22 mark on a Potter three to make the score 56-36.

Southeastern would finish out the contest with a 16-12 edge over the final nine minutes to seal the 72-48 victory.
