SE Win Streak Snapped at SNU

BETHANY, Okla. – Southeastern was stricken by its worst all-around shooting night of the season and as a result saw its eight-game winning streak snapped with a 68-57 loss on Saturday night to Southern Nazarene in Bethany, Okla.

The loss drops the Savage Storm to 8-1 overall on the year and 2-1 in Great American Conference play.

From the field, the team hit just 35.7 percent, but had a season low five threes and hit 22.7 percent from long range.

Unfortunately the shooting woes did not end there as SE turned in a 12-of-21 performance from the free throw line, shooting below 60 percent for the second-straight game.

Leading scorer Emily Williams got back to her scoring form, finishing with a double-double on 16 points and 13 rebounds.

Rachel Wallace was the only other Storm player to reach double-digits with 12.

Cheree Kiser finished with nine and dished out three assists, while Kaylie Baxter added eight and was second in rebounding for SE with five.

Despite the rough shooting outing, SE held SNU to 37.1 percent shooting from the field, including 30.4 percent from long range, but the Storm was bitten by 19 turnovers which the Crimson Storm turned into 17 points.

The other trouble spot in the game was the glass where SNU held a 46-to-41 edge, but pulled down 16 offensive rebounds and turned that into a 21-4 advantage in second-chance points.

The Crimson Storm took control in the first half, taking advantage of Southeastern's 24.0 percent shooting effort and 1-of-9 performance from three-point range to build a 37-18 lead at the break.

The Storm bounced back in the second half with a 45.2 percent-to-32.3 percent shooting edge, but only outscored SNU 39-31 over the final 20 minutes to close the final score to 68-57.
