BARTLESVILLE, Okla. – Fifth-seeded Southeastern opens its run in the Great American Conference Tournament on Friday, March 7 at 8 p.m. with a rubber-match against fourth-seeded Arkansas Tech in Bartlesville, Okla.
The Savage Storm will enter the contest at 13-13 overall on the year and a 10-10 mark in GAC play, but are in the midst of a five-game losing skid to end the year, their worst streak of the season.
The teams split their matchups on the year with each team winning on its home court, with the Storm taking a 67-63 decision in Durant and the Golden Suns winning 79-76 in Russellville, Ark., just over a week ago.
In the first meeting between the teams,
Emily Williams turned in 27 points to lead all scorers, only to one-up herself in the rematch at ATU with a career-high 30 points in the loss.
Williams is a first team All-GAC honoree averaging a team-high 16.5 ppg, and is even better against league foes at 18.5 per outing.
She is joined in double-figures by
Breana Small-Peppers at 11.6 ppg, and
Haley Schaefer at 10.7 per game.
Small-Peppers paces the team's rebounding at 7.7 rebounds per game, while Williams is not far behind at 7.5.
The Suns come into the contest at 16-10 overall on the season and 12-8 in GAC play, but have lost two-straight coming into the tournament.
Four ATU players average in double-digits, led by the 13.2 ppg put up by Anissa Pounds, as well as Cara Neighbors.
Jacinda Meyers-Sander leads the rebounding effort at 7.2 rpg.
The two teams have a history in tournament play, with Southeastern picking up the league's first-ever eight-versus-one upset with an 84-72 opening round upset in the inaugural GAC tournament in 2012.
