SE Falls in Non-Conference Tilt at TAMUC

Commerce, Texas – Southeastern's got off to its slowest start of the season on Monday as they were unable to overcome a 15-point first quarter deficit in an 80-60 road loss at Texas A&M-Commerce in Commerce, Texas.
 
The Savage Storm slip to 1-5 on the year and will jump back into Great American Conference play with a two-game road swing to Arkadelphia, Ark., to take on Ouachita Baptist at 5:30 p.m. on Dec. 3 and Henderson State at 1 p.m. on Dec. 5.
 
SE shot 41.0 percent from the field on the night, but were held in check from long range, hitting just 6-of-23 tries from behind the arc.
 
Olivia Potter led the way in scoring with 14, hitting two of those threes and shooting 60.0 percent overall from the floor.
 
Rachel Wallace added 12 points and was 5-of-9 while hitting two threes of her own.
 
Shelby Hill hit the remaining two three point buckets and finished with eight points, while Katie Webb added eight points on a 4-of-6 effort from the floor.
 
The Storm offense was plagued by turnovers, with TAMUC picking up 17 steals on 23 SE turnovers, turning that into a 23-13 edge in points off turnovers.
 
Webb and Wallace led the team in rebounding with six each, while Sa'Liesha Hunter added four.
 
In contracts to the Storm shooting night, the Lions hit 49.2 percent from the field and knocked down 12 threes, shooting 48.0 percent from long range.
 
With the exception of the first quarter the game was very even, however Southeastern opened the contest on the wrong end of a 22-6 run and found themselves in a double-digit deficit, managing to cut it back to 25-10 by the first break.
 
TAMUC held a 20-18 edge in the second quarter and the Storm was unable to dig out of the hole by the half when it trailed 45-28.
 
The Lions would take the third quarter 22-16, and the Storm would slightly close the gap by taking the final quarter 16-13 to make the final 80-60.
