Second Half Woes Sink Storm

WEATHERFORD, Okla.  – It was a tale of two halves for Southeastern as it saw a halftime lead disappear on a rough second half shooting effort to fall in the regular season finale at Southwestern Oklahoma State 77-71 in Weatherford, Okla.

The loss drops the Savage Storm to 19-9 overall and 12-8 in Great American Conference play, earning them the number three seed in next week's conference tournament where it will get an immediate rematch with the Bulldogs at noon on March 5 for a rubber-match.

SE jumped out to a 37-30 lead at the half, but a 28.2 percent shooting performance allowed SWOSU to outscore the Storm 47-34 in the second half.

Emily Williams led a trio of Southeastern scorers who reached double figures with 12 points, while Rachel Wallace added 11 points on the strength of three three-pointers and Sa'Liesha Hunter chipped in 10 points off the bench.

Williams and Wallace each dished out a team-high three assists.

Wallace led the team on the boards with nine, while Williams and Kaylie Baxter each added seven.

The Storm used a 7-1 run at the end of the first half to turn a one possession game into a 37-30 lead at the break.

SE pushed its lead to eight points early in the second half, but a 9-0 SWOSU run erased Southeastern's advantage and turned the game back into a one-possession back-and-forth game.

The Storm saw its lead disappear for good with 4:40 to play as an 8-3 run put them in a six point hole with 2:49 to go.

SE would twice get the deficit back to three points, the last coming on a Wallace three with 50 seconds to go, but were unable to complete the comeback in a 77-71 loss.
