ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – For just the second time in the four years of the Great American Conference, Southeastern lost a four-game weekend series, doing so after dropping both ends of a double header at Henderson State on Sunday, falling 4-0 and 3-1 in Arkadelphia, Ark.
Â
The losses dropped the Savage Storm to 30-21 overall on the season and 24-10 in Great American Conference play.
Â
Depending on the outcome of East Central's weekend series, SE will hold either the No. 2 or 3 seed in next week's GAC Tournament April 30 through May 2 in Bentonville, Ark.
Â
Jessica Seay tossed a complete game in the opener and was hit for four runs, three earned, on eight hits with a pair of strikeouts.
Â
Offensively the Storm stranded eight runners, with
Jessica Simmons collecting three of the team's four hits.Â
Sydney Kramer added the other one.
Â
SE left runners in scoring position in four of the seven innings, while HSU posted a run in the second, two more in the third and another in the fourth to build up the 4-0 lead that would be the final.
Â
In the nightcap Seay tossed her second complete game of the day and allowed three runs on six hits with one strikeouts, but was handed her second-straight loss.
Â
Haley Strawn led the way with three hits, while Simmons added two more.
Â
Jacee Bennett picked up the team's other hit and collected an RBI.
Â
A run in the first and two more in the fourth would put HSU up 3-0, but the Storm looked to rally in the top of the seventh, loading the bases with no outs before a pinch-hitting Bennett singled home Seay to close the gap to 3-1.
Â
The was as close as the Storm would get as the Reddies would turn a double play to get out of trouble in the inning and hand SE the 3-1 loss.
