DURANT, Okla. – Despite holding a lead after three quarters Southeastern was unable to hold off Oklahoma Baptist in the fourth as the visitors used a 10-4 run in the final 5:17 of the game to erase a one-point Savage Storm lead and send the home team to a 66-61 loss on Thursday night in Bloomer Sullivan Arena.
The loss is the fourth in-a-row for SE who dip to 3-10 overall on the year and 1-6 in Great American Conference play heading into a Saturday afternoon matchup with Northwestern Oklahoma state at 1 p.m. in Alva, Okla.
The Storm got 16 points from
Olivia Potter to lead the way as she drained her first three three-point tries and had the team's first nine points.
She was joined in double-figures by
Taylor Richards who turned in 12 on a 6-of-9 shooting night, while
Katie Webb chipped in 10 by going 4-of-6 from the field.
Richards turned in an all-around game, adding team highs of five assists, nine rebounds and four steals.
Kaylie Baxter added seven rebounds in the effort and just missed double-figure scoring with eight points.
SE shot 46.8 percent from the field on the night, but went uncharacteristically cold form long range in the second half where they hit 1-of-7 threes.
OBU scored the game's first point, with SE answering and holding the lead briefly before the Bison pulled away to open up the game with a 21-14 lead at the first break.
The deficit grew as large as nine points early in the second quarter, but an 18-2 run by the Storm would erase the deficit and open up a 39-32 lead with 2:22 to go in the half.
OBU would answer though and whittle the SE lead to 39-38 at halftime.
Southeastern maintained the lead for the entire third quarter and took a 50-48 edge into the final frame.
The teams would trade the lead back-and-forth with an
Emem David layup putting the Storm in front 57-56 with 5:17 to play.
However, the Bisons would use a 10-4 run over the final half of the fourth quarter to steal a 66-61 win.
