Late Run Sends SE Women to Loss at ECU

ADA, Okla. – While neither team shot well for the night, Southeastern built a double-digit fourth-quarter lead which it saw disappear over the final 5:21 of the game in a 48-43 loss to rival East Central on Monday night in Ada, Okla.

The loss drops the Savage Storm to 4-11 overall on the season and 2-7 in Great American Conference play heading into a 5:30 p.m. matchup with Southwestern Oklahoma State on Jan. 20 in Bloomer Sullivan Arena.

Neither team managed to surpass 30 percent shooting on the night, with SE hitting 28.8 percent from the field while going 4-of-24 from behind the arc.

Olivia Potter finished with 11 points, while Kaylie Baxter and Taylor Richards each added eight.

Emem David chipped in six and Rachel Wallace finished with five.

Baxter dished out a team-high four assists, while the Storm had 10 on 15 made baskets.

Defensively David hauled in a team-high 10 rebounds while SE held a 45-to-38 edge on the glass.

The first half scoring would have been more appropriate on the football field than the basketball court as the Storm crawled out to a 15-11 lead at the break with the teams combining for seven points in the second quarter.

The pace picked up a little in the third quarter with SE opening up a 29-22 lead after three quarters.

That lead grew to 12 points off a Wallace three and a Potter layup, going up 34-22 with 7:23 to play.

Southeastern maintained that edge after a Richards jumper with 5:36 to go at 36-24.

However, the Tigers would finish the game on a 24-6 run over the final 5:21 to erase the Storm advantage and steal a 48-43 win.
