MONTICELLO, Ark. – Southeastern picked up its third-straight win, avenged a loss from earlier in the season and opened the second half of Great American Conference play with a 58-54 win over Arkansas-Monticello on Thursday night in Monticello, Ark.

The win lifts the Savage Storm to 7-11 overall on the year and 5-7 in GAC play, moving them into a tie with UAM for seventh in the standings heading into a Saturday contest with Southern Arkansas at 1 p.m. in Magnolia, Ark.

SE never trailed by more than one possession throughout the entire contest, and after doubling up the Cotton Blossoms in the second quarter at 16-8 would take a 33-26 lead at the break, with a
Rachel Wallace three with 1:11 to go in the half setting the halftime difference.

Kaylie Baxter opened the third quarter with a three for a double-digit lead and an
Olivia Potter three at the 6:01 mark would give the Storm its largest lead of the game at 43-31.

Southeastern would take a 48-47 lead into the final quarter.

The defense would have to step up as the lead was whittled to one possession and eventually cut to 55-54 after Jordan Goforth hit one of two free throws.

Wallace had the first answer by calmly knocking down a pair of free throws to push the lead back to three points with 23 seconds to play.

After UAM missed a pair of three point tries
Katie Webb would corral a rebound and kick it to
Miranda Schaefer who was fouled with nine seconds to go.

She would knock down one of her two free throws to push the lead to 58-54 and Wallace would block UAMs final three point try to preserve the 58-54 win.

Baxter would lead the way for SE with 14 points to lead a trio of double-digit scorers. She was 4-of-9 from the floor, all from three point range and 2-of-2 from the charity stripe.

Emem David joined her by adding 12 points, with Wallace right behind at 11 with a trio of threes.

Wallace also led the way with five assists as the Storm picked up 11 as a team.

David's seven rebounds led the Storm on the glass and Baxter was on her heels with six, while Wallace added five and a pair of blocked shots.
