SE Wraps Exhibitions with Loss at Texas State

SAN MARCOS, Texas – After finding points in a pair of higher scoring, single-digit losses to Division I programs in its first two exhibitions, Southeastern found itself in the complete opposite setting on Saturday afternoon in a 62-41 grinding loss at Texas State in San Marcos, Texas.

The loss is the finals exhibition contest for the Storm who will now open regular season play on Nov. 11 when it faces Northeastern State at 3 p.m. in Edmond, Okla., as part of the GAC/MIAA Challenge.

Tyler Lonzie was the only SE players to reach double-digits as he finished with 11 points, while Anton Cook was next up with seven and Isaiah Boling added six.

The Storm shot 21.1 percent from the field for the game and 19.2 percent from long range and were unable to take advantage of a slow shooting night for the Bobcats who hit just 37.7 percent and 19.2 from beyond the arc.

James Donelan led the Storm on the glass with nine rebounds, while Kevin Buckingham added six, while Lonzie, Cook and Jett Jobe had five apiece.

Donelan provided one of the biggest highlights for the Storm as he blocked a game-high five shots as the Storm swatted nine for the game.

The Storm were plagued with 23 turnovers across from TSU's 15 which gave the home team a 21-14 edge in points off those miscues, while it was points in the paint where the biggest difference was made as the Bobcats held a 38-10 edge there.

It was a slow game from the tip as it would be 3:54 before either team would score as TSU would then score the first 11 points of the game with the Storm falling as far as 16 points behind before closing that gap down to five points on a Boling three with 1:24 to go in the half, but the teams settled on a 25-18 Texas State edge at the break.

The second verse was the same as the first as the Bobcats would stretch their lead out to as many as 22 points by the midway portion of the second half.  This time SE was unable to whittle away as it would eventually reach 26 points with 1:14 to play before the Storm would score the final five points, including a Nathan Jackson jumper on the final play of the game to make the final 62-41.
