HSU Pulls Away Late in Storm Loss

DURANT, Okla. – Despite putting five players in double-figures southeastern was unable to land its first Great American Conference win of the season, instead falling 85-76 to Henderson state on Saturday afternoon in Bloomer Sullivan Arena.
 
The loss is the second in-a-row for the team and drops them to 4-5 overall and 0-4 in league play heading into a Dec. 10 matchup with Texas San Antonio at 3 p.m. in San Antonio, Texas.
 
Jett Jobe turned in a team-best 15 points thanks to hitting three threes and added seven assists and three steals with a pair of rebounds without posting a turnover.
 
Anton Cook added a pair of threes and finished with 14 points, while Kevin Buckingham and Marti Fonolla posted 11 apiece and Bobby Johnson chipped in 10.
 
The Storm shot 44.3 percent for the game, but hit 27.6 percent from long range despite draining eight threes, while HSU hit 50.0 from the field overall.
 
Anthony Palmer led the team with seven rebounds while Nathan Jackson's four was next in line.
 
The game featured eight ties and six lead changes, and saw the Storm erase a 10 point deficit in the second half to take a 58-57 leads after a pair of Buckingham free throws.
 
HSU would regain the lead until a Jobe bucket with 4:45 to play would put SE ahead 65-64.
 
That was the last lead the Storm would enjoy as the Reddies regained the advantage on the following possession.
 
Southeastern closed the gap to one possession, but HSU would extend a two-point lead into a six point lead with 1:17 to go after drawing a shooting foul and getting a pair of free throws following a technical foul.
 
Southeastern was unable to close the gap again as HSU pulled out to an 85-76 win.
