DURANT, Okla. –
Nathan Jackson turned in his second 20-point outing of the season and powered Southeastern to an 80-62 win over Northwestern Oklahoma State on Saturday afternoon in Bloomer Sullivan Arena.
Â
The Savage Storm improve to 10-13 overall on the year and 8-9 in Great American Conference play, moving them into a three-way tie for seventh in the league standings with Arkansas Tech and NWOSU, just one game out of fifth place.
Â
Jackson finished the contest going 6-of-13 form the field and 8-of-9 at the free throw line to finish with 20 points, while
Quinton Threadgill joined him in double-figures with 13 on 4-of-6 shooting which included a pair of threes.
Â
Tyler Lonzie added nine points off the bench, while
Marti Fonolla and
Antonio Worthy chipped in eight each, with
Anton Cook turning in seven.
Â
Threadgill dished out a team-best six assists as the Storm totaled 18 as a team on the game.
Â
SE also held a 49-to-25 advantage on the boards where Fonolla and Cook led the way with eight rebounds each, while Jackson, Lonzie and
Ander Perez added six apiece.
Â
Southeastern took advantage of a 16-to-5 edge in offensive rebounds to outscore the Rangers 16-1 in second-chance points.
Â
NWOSU would tie the game with its first bucket and take a brief 4-2 lead with its second, but a Threadgill three at the 18:37 mark of the first half would put the Storm in front and they would never trail again.
Â
That bucket was the first of a 9-0 run to open up an 11-4 lead, and after the Rangers got the deficit back to one possession SE again reeled off a run, this one 10-0 and capped by a Lonzie bucket with 9:29 to go in the half to open up a 21-8 lead.
Â
The lead would grow as large as 15 before NWOSU trimmed it back to seven points with just over six minutes to play, but SE would push it back to double-digits and settle on a 41-26 lead at the halftime break.
Â
The Storm opened with the first eight points of the second half with a pair of Fonolla threes bookending a Worthy layup and opening up a 49-26 lead.
Â
The lead would remain above 20 points for the next 14:18 with the exception of a brief 41 second stint, growing as large as 27 points when Jackson hit a layup off a Fonolla pass with 8:18 to play.
Â
The Rangers would get as close as 14 points within the final four minutes, but SE scored five of the game's last six points to pull away with the 80-62 win.
