Baseball Falls in Opener at SWOSU

WEATHERFORD, Okla. – Southeastern posted a five-run inning to rally from an early 6-0 deficit, but was unable to keep Southwestern off the board as they posted nine runs between the sixth and eighth innings which led to a 15-6 Savage Storm loss on Friday afternoon in Weatherford, Okla.

The loss drops SE to 6-8 on the year overall and 1-3 in Great American Conference play heading into a noon double-header on Saturday to close out the three-game series.

The Storm tallied 11 hits in the contest as Dylan Helms, Kaleb Thomas and Brandon Grimsley turned in two each.

Greg Husnander led the way in RBI with three on a three-run homer, while Grimsley drove in two and Thomas, added one.

Scott Richards got the start and was saddled with the loss after allowing six runs, five earned, in 3.1 innings pitched with a strikeout.

Mike Wade came on in relief and was hit for three runs on two hits in 3.2 innings while striking out four.

Scott Brinkley finished the game, tossing an inning and allowing six runs, only two of which were earned, on six hits.

The Bulldogs pulled ahead with runs in the first, third and fourth inning to open up a 6-0 lead.

Thomas would finally break the run with an RBI single to score Logan Terwilliger in the sixth inning.

Grimsley would add another run later in the inning on a sac fly and Husnander would bring Thomas and Tim Hunter home along with himself on a three-run homer to cap the sixth and close the gap to 6-5.

However, that would not last long as SWOSU would score three runs in the bottom of the sixth to push their lead to 9-5.

An RBI single by Grimsley would score Terwilliger in the seventh to make the score 9-6, but the Bulldogs would score six more in the bottom of the eighth and SE found no answer, falling 15-6.
