DURANT, Okla. – Southeastern pushed its winning streak to 13 games and kept its Great American Conference record spotless by picking up wins of 5-2 and 3-2 over Henderson State on Saturday afternoon at the Southeastern Softball Field.
Â
The wins lift the Savage Storm to 16-6 overall on the year and 12-0 in league play, keeping them in a tie for first with Arkansas tech who swept Southern Nazarene on the weekend.
Â
SE will be on the road next weekend when it travels to Arkadelphia, Ark., to face Ouachita Baptist in a four-game series March 12-13.
Â
Six players each collected a hit for SE in game one, with
Mykaela Wallace and
Conner Harmon each driving in a pair of runs and
Sydney Kramer adding an RBI of her own.
Â
In the circle
Jessica Seay turned in another complete game performance, allowing two runs on seven hits with five strikeouts to pick up her seventh win of the season.
Â
Kramer got the Storm on the board in the first inning with an RBI groundout, taking advantage of a
Jessica Simmons single, followed by her stealing second and moving to third on a
Destiny Riddle sac bunt.
Â
The Reddies responded with a two-run homer in the top of the fourth to take a 2-1 lead.
Â
SE was nearly retired in the bottom of the fourth on three pitches, but a two out error allowed
Courtney Riddle to reach and move to second.
Â
That was followed by a
Jordyn James hit which moved
Courtney Riddle to third, and after James moved to second trying to get HSU to get caught up in a hang-up play Wallace would connect on a two-run single to right to regain the lead at 3-2.
Â
Keeshia Thompson followed with a single and advanced to second on the throw to put runners at second and third for Harmon who had a two-run single to center to push the lead to 5-2.
Â
The Reddies would push runners into scoring position in the sixth, but Seay would get out of trouble to preserve the 5-2 win.
Â
In the series finale, SE was out-hit 8-4, but got another outstanding pitching performance as
Emily Cudd tossed 6.2 innings to earn her eighth win of the year, allowing two runs on six hits with three strikeouts.
Â
Seay would come on to face three batters and record the final out of the game to earn her second save of the season.
Â
Simmons, Kramer,
Laramie Beal and
Jordyn James recorded the only four hits for the Storm in the final game of the series.
Â
Kramer, James and Wallace each drove in a run.
Â
For the second-straight game and the third time on the weekend Southeastern got on the board with a Kramer RBI groundout which scored Simmons to take a 1-0 lead.
Â
Things stayed quiet until the fourth inning with a pinch-hit double by James down the left field line that scored Beal to take a 2-0 lead.
Â
One batter later a Wallace RBI groundout would push the lead to 3-0.
Â
HSU would try to mount a rally with a pair of runs on four hits in the top of the seventh, but Seay would coax the nine-hole hitter to fly out to right to hang onto a 3-2 wni.
