DURANT, Okla. – Southeastern shot 50 percent from the field and had four players in double-figures as they pulled away for a 78-58 victory over Southern Arkansas on Thursday night in Bloomer Sullivan Arena.
Â
The win moves them to 10-6 overall on the year and 8-4 in Great American Conference play, and thanks to a Henderson State loss to Oklahoma Baptist, the Savage Storm holds down third place in the league standings.
Â
The SE offense went 28-of-56 from the field, including an 11-of-27 effort from beyond the arc, and garnished that performance with an 11-of-14 effort at the free throw line.
Â
Katie Webb and
Olivia Potter each turned in 14 points, with Webb shooting 50 percent from the field and Potter draining four threes.
Â
Rachel Wallace added 12 on a 5-of-9 effort with a pair of threes, while
Ariannah Kemp turned in 12 off the bench, hitting 5-of-6 shots.
Â
Sa'Liesha Hunter only added two points, but dished out a game-high nine assists on the contest.
Â
The Storm also held a 39-to-27 edge on the boards, led by 10 rebounds from
Emem David, while Webb added seven and Kemp turned in six.
Â
The contest was back-and-forth throughout the entire first quarter with four ties and eight lead changes over the 10 minute span, with Kemp scoring with 59 second to play which would ultimately give SE a 17-15 lead after one quarter.
Â
SAU would not get any closer than two points in the second quarter, with the Storm edging its lead out to as many as nine points on two occasions, both on David free throws.
Â
The Muleriders would get a pair of free throws with 25 second to go in the half to trim the SE lead to 33-26 at the break.
Â
SAU would close the gap to five points twice early in the third quarter, but three-straight threes, two by Potter and the third by Wallace, followed by a Kemp jumper would eventually open up a double-digit advantage at 46-36.
Â
The lead would never shrink below double-figures again as SE would take a 55-43 lead into the fourth quarter.
Â
The 12 point deficit it started with was as close as the SAU would come as the Storm stretched its advantage beyond 20 points on a pair of Kemp free throws with 57 seconds left, and would lead by as many as 22 before settling on the 78-58 final score.
