SE Falls to ATU in Heartbreaking Fashion

DURANT, Okla. – Southeastern rallied to take a lead in the final seconds , but would suffer heartbreak once again against Arkansas Tech as they would hit a long-distance three with one second to play to hand the Savage Storm an 84-81 loss on Saturday night in Bloomer Sullivan Arena.

The loss drops the Savage Storm to 1-3 on the season and 1-1 in Great American Conference play heading into a pair of non-conference matchups on Nov. 24-25 as part of the UAFS Classic in Fort smith, Ark.

Kevin Buckingham had his biggest day of the young season with 24 points, including a bucket with six second left to take an 82-81 lead, hitting 9-of-12 from the floor with a pair of threes.

Jett Jobe added 16 points with a pair of threes, while Markell Henderson chipped in nine as did Myles Nesbitt.

Adam Dworsky dished out a game-high seven assists, while Jobe and Bobby Johnson handed out four apiece.

Buckingham and Dworsky each hauled in a team-high seven rebounds, while Henderson turned in six.

The Storm found itself in a 10-0 hole early, but a Buckingham bucket would get them on the board and kick off a 16-3 run capped by a Nesbitt three to take a 16-3 lead at the 13:25 mark.

The teams would trade the lead on consecutive possessions before ATU started to pull away, going up by as many as 11 before the Storm cut it down to a 46-38 deficit at the half.

The Wonder Boys built their lead back to double-figures early in the second half and lead by as many as 13 points in the half and were up 10 with 6:21 to play.

Another Buckingham layup would set off a 17-5 run, capped by Buckingham's shot with six seconds remaining to take an 82-81 lead.

Unfortunately, ATU's Montrell Williams would connect from well beyond the arc with 1.3 seconds left to steal an 84-82 win for the Wonder Boys.
