Baseball Swept in Saturday Twinbill

SAN ANGELO, Texas – Southeastern combined for 11 hits over two games and dropped both ends of a double-header at No. 8 Angelo State on Saturday, falling 7-2 in the opener and 14-1 in the series finale in San Angelo, Texas.
 
The losses drop the Savage Storm to 1-5 to open the season heading into its home and conference opening series against Southern Arkansas Feb. 17-18 at The Ballpark in Durant.
 
SE collected five hits in the opener off the bats of Travis Spinney, Garrin Young, Hunter Harrison, Reagan Warren and Cade Clay.
 
Ty Hanson would record the team's RBI.
 
Hayden Grimes got the start and tossed 3.1 innings while allowing four runs on six hits with four strikeouts, but was hit with the loss.
 
Tristen Wood faced three batters and allowed two runs on a hit before Mike Wade took over and tossed the final 2.2 innings, allowing a run on four hits with three K's.
 
ASU opened up a 2-0 lead in the second inning, but the Storm cut into it with a run in the third as Clay scored on a balk.
 
SE would tie the game 2-2 in the top of the fourth on Hanson's sac fly which drove in Harrison, but the Rams would answer with four runs in the bottom half of the inning and another in the sixth to pull ahead 7-2 which would be the final score.
 
Jett Swigart posted a 2-for-2 effort in the nightcap, collecting a third of the team's hits in the game with a pair of doubles, while Spinney added another hit and an RBI.
 
Cody Nitson got the start and the loss after tossing 2.0 innings, allowing five runs, four earned, on seven hits.
 
Five pitchers would combine to throw the remaining four innings and would combine to allow nine runs, eight of which were earned, on five hits with four strikeouts.
 
ASU scored in each of the first three innings, mounting a 6-0 lead before Spinney would single home Clay in the firth to make it 6-1.
