Storm Goes Cold in Loss at ECU

ADA, Okla. – Despite a 17-point effort from Katie Webb, Southeastern was unable to overcome a cold-shooting second half in a 66-59 loss at East Central on Monday night in Ada, Okla.

The loss drops the Savage Storm to 14-8 overall and 12-6 in Great American Conference play.

Webb led the Storm offensively with 17 points on 7-of-13 shooting, while Olivia Potter added 10 points.

Courtney Brady dished out a team-best three assists.

Webb also led the way on the boards with eight rebounds and added a pair of blocks and pair of steals on defense as well.

The first quarter was a low scoring effort across the board as Webb had four points, while Alix Robinson hit a three and Potter hit a running jumper and the Storm trailed 10-9 after the first 10 minutes.

The teams traded the lead out of the gate in the second quarter, with the Tigers edging out to a 12-11 lead before Webb drained a three at the 7:20 mark, followed by a Wallace three on the next possession to open up a 17-12 lead.

ECU would get a three to make it 17-15, but the Storm responded and after trading twos for three with long balls from Tracy Johnson and Robinson the lead stretched out to 27-21 with 3:36 to play and would pull ahead for a 31-24 lead at halftime.

The Storm found itself cold again in the third quarter, holding onto its lead until the 4:21 mark when the Tigers hit a three to go up 38-36. Robinson would answer with a midrange jumper, drawing a foul and hitting a free throw to open up a 39-38 lead, but ECU would finish the frame on a 6-2 run to leave SE down 44-41 heading to the fourth quarter.

SE never truly recovered in the fourth quarter, despite closing the gap to 46-43 early in the frame on a Courtney Brady layup, and later closing to three points again on a Miranda Schafer bucket with 7:38 to play.

ECU would respond with a 10-2 run to leave the Storm in a 58-47 hole with 3:50 to play, and while Southeastern would whittle that back to a five-point game on a Potter three with 1:12 to play the rally never materialized as the Tigers would steal the contest 66-59.
