SE Overpowers Bulldogs with 89-69 Win

DURANT, Okla. – Southeastern solidified its hold on third place heading into the final week of the season as Emem David turned in a double-double to power Southeastern to an 89-69 victory on Saturday afternoon in Bloomer Sullivan Arena.

The win lifts the Savage Storm to 16-8 overall on the year and 14-6 in Great American Conference play.

The contest was delayed by nearly 45 minutes as SWOSU was effected by travel issues.

When it did get going SE scored early and often, shooting 50.8 percent from the field and 40.9 percent from three-point range while connecting on 82.4 percent of its free throws.

David paced all scorers with 19 points on 6-of-11 shooting with a 7-of-7 mark at the free throw line while adding 11 rebounds to log her second double-double of the season.

She led a foursome of double-digit scorers and was joined by Katie Webb who turned in 14, while Ariannah Kemp added 12 and Olivia Potter 10.

Sa'Liesha Hunter dished out five assists, while Kemp turned in four.

David's 11 boards led all rebounders, followed by nine from Kemp as the Storm held a 42-to-30 edge on the glass.

Southeastern opened the game 5-for-5 from the floor with a pair of threes to open up a 12-6 lead.

That would stretch out to as much as an 11 point advantage on a Kemp bucket at the 1:44 mark before taking a 29-22 lead after one quarter.

SWOSU closed the gap to four points right out of the gate in the second quarter, but the Storm answered with a 17-2 run capped by a pair of Miranda Schaefer free throws to push its lead out to 46-27 with 5:09 to go in the half, eventually taking a 48-36 lead to the locker room at the break.

SE won the third quarter by a 22-19 margin and would head into the final frame with a 70-55 advantage.

Rachel Wallace would hit a layup and a three out of the gate in the fourth to push the lead out to 75-55 and a pair od David free throws at the 5:33 mark would make the score 82-60 for the largest lead of the afternoon, eventually finishing up with an 89-69 victory.
