DURANT, Okla. –
Katie Webb paced Southeastern with 19 points as the Savage Storm finished off the regular season schedule with a 71-63 win over No. 22 Arkansas Tech to earn a victory on Senior Day in Bloomer Sullivan Arena.
Â
The win lifts the Savage Storm to 17-9 overall on the year and 15-7 in Great American Conference play, but as a result of Southwestern Oklahoma State recording a win in its finale as well SE will open GAC tournament play at noon on March 3 as the four seed and facing rival East Central in Bartlesville, Okla.
Â
Saturday was the final home game for seniors
Olivia Potter,
Rachel Wallace and
Kierra Davis.
Â
Potter finished with eight points and Wallace added seven, but it was a sophomore in Webb who went 6-of-11 from the floor and finished with 19 points to lead the team on offense.
Â
Ariannah Kemp came off the bench to join her in double-digits with 10, while
Sa'Liesha Hunter added nine,
Emem David and Potter chipped in eight each with Wallace and
Courtney Brady adding seven apiece.
Â
Webb also dished out a team-high four assists, while it was David who lead the way on the glass with 11 rebounds.
Â
The Storm held a 42-to-36 edge in rebounding and an edge shooting, hitting 42.2 percent to ATU's 34.7 percent.
Â
SE trailed by six point early at 10-4, but Brady would score the next seven points on three-straight possessions and turn that into an 11-10 lead with 1:15 to go in the first quarter, leading to a 13-10 lead after one.
Â
Wallace would cap a drive run that extended that lead to 20-12 early in the second, but the Golden Suns would rally to close the gap to one point before a
Tracy Johnson three would trigger a 9-0 run which was capped by a Hunter jumper with four seconds left to make it 34-24 at halftime.
Â
The lead would reach 12 with the first points of the third quarter, but a 19-2 run by ATU would erase that advantage and leave the Storm trailing 43-28 with 3:11 to go in the third.
Â
They would get their answer with a Kemp jumper and a Webb three which tied the game, while Hunter and Webb would each hit a pair of free throws and Southeastern would lead 47-45 going to the fourth.
Â
SE never trailed in the fourth as it turned a two point lead into an 11 point advantage with a 14-3 run and the Storm would go 10-of-14 from the line over the final two minutes to hold onto a 71-63 victory.
