SE Struggles Continue in Road Loss

ALVA, Okla. – Southeastern never recovered from a 16-4 run by Northwestern Oklahoma State to open the game as the Savage Storm found themselves on the wrong end of a 66-56 score on Thursday night in Alva, Okla.

The loss drops SE to 8-14 overall on the season and 4-12 in Great American Conference play heading into a Saturday afternoon contest against Oklahoma Baptist at 3 p.m. in Bloomer Sullivan Arena.

Anton Cook was the offensive bright spot for the Storm with a game-high 17 points while hitting a pair of threes and going 5-of-6 at the free throw line.

Tyler Lonzie was the next highest scorer with 10, while Kevin Buckingham hit three threes to finish with nine.

Jett Jobe added a team-best five assists along with seven points.

Lonzie also pulled down a team-best eight rebounds, with Buckingham next in line with six.

NWOSU reeled off an 16-4 run to open the contest before Cook connected on a jumper at the 9:52 mark to stop the bleeding, followed by a Jobe three and a Gianpaolo Riccio three to cut the deficit to 16-12 with 8:31 to go in the half.

The Rangers would push its lead back out to 12 with 3:50 to play in the half, but the Storm finished on a 9-2 run, capped by a Jobe layup with under a minute to play to make the halftime score 28-23.

NWOSU would open the second half similarly to the way they opened the first, putting together a 10-1 run to leave the Storm down by its largest deficit of the game at 38-24 by the 15:21 mark of the second half.

A Buckingham three would trigger a 10-2 run by SE, capped by a Cook three with 9:58 to play which closed the gap to 40-34.

However, the Rangers would respond with a 10-3 run of their own to push the lead back out to 13 points.

Southeastern would get as close as seven points down the stretch but was unable to mount a full rally, falling 66-56.
