Teams Combine for 24 runs in SE loss

DURANT, Okla. – The teams combined for 24 runs and 25 hits, but it was Southeastern who was playing catch up for much of the contest against Oklahoma Christian, but was unable to mount a rally in a 15-9 loss on Tuesday afternoon at The Ballpark in Durant.

The loss drops the Savage Storm to 5-17-1 on the year overall as they return to Great American Conference play with a three-game series against Ouachita Baptist March 24-25 in Arkadelphia, Ark.

Travis Spinney, Hunter Harrison, Luke Thomas and Jett Swigart each collected a pair of hits, while Cade Clay, Brett Akins, Ty Hanson and Micah Simmer added one each.

It was also the second-straight game the Storm have piled up double-digit hits.

Thomas would drive in a game-high three runs, while Hanson added a pair of RBI, with Spinney, Swigart and Ross driving in one each.

However, on the other side the SE pitching staff had a rough outing as seven pitchers combined to toss a nine inning contest, while the defense did not due any favors either, committing six errors which accounted for four unearned runs.

Tristen Wood got the start and took the loss after allowing five runs on three hits with one strikeout.

Jake Patterson and Bailey Burks would combine to face six batters and record one out, allowing four runs, three earned, on two hits.

Cody Nitson would get the Storm out of the second inning and toss 1.2 innings, allowing a run on two hits with three K's, but walking five.

Hunter Harrison would take over for him and toss 2.2 innings, allowing two runs, one earned, on three hits with a strikeout.

Cory Scheibner followed with an inning of work, allowing two unearned runs on a hit with a strikeout.

Michael Brinska would close out the game with two innings and allow a run on two hits with three K's.

The Eagles would open up a 9-0 lead after sending 15 batters to the plate and collecting five hits.

A run in the fourth and two more in the sixth would expand that lead to 12-0.

SE found its offense in the bottom of the sixth as Akins would draw a two-out walk to load the bases which was followed by a two-run single by Thomas.

Hanson would pinch-hit for the next hitter and double home Thomas and Akins to make it 12-4.

The Storm would cap the inning with an RBI single by Swigart to plate Hanson and cut it to 12-5.

OC would tack on two runs in the top of the seventh, but another Thomas RBI single would score Micah Simmer and was followed by Clay scoring on a wild pitch to close to within 14-7.

The Eagles added another run in the top of the eighth, but a Spinney RBI double would match it to make it 15-8.

The Storm would add another run on a bases-loaded walk drawn by Gage Ross to make it 15-9, but would leave the bases loaded as the game ended.
