DURANT, Okla. –
Hayden Grimes tossed a complete game and the Southeastern offense blew up for seven runs in the fifth inning en route to an 11-1 run-rule victory over Harding to sweep the series on Saturday afternoon at The Ballpark in Durant.
The wins lift the Savage Storm to 9-19-1 overall and 8-11 in Great American Conference play and lifting them to seventh in the conference standings.
Cade Clay and
Jake Perez each collected a pair of hits, while
Hunter Harrison,
Brett Akins,
Micah Simmer and
Luke Thomas added one each.
Clay and Akins each finished with three RBI, with Simmer,
Jett Swigart and Thomas driving in one each.
Akins connected on his second home run of the weekend, while Harrison, Simmer and Perez each doubled.
Grimes tossed all seven innings and allowed a run on nine hits with four strikeouts to earn his third win of the year.
Clay got the Storm on the board in the fifth with a two-run single through the right side to plate
Ty Hanson and Perez.
After Harrison drew a walk to load the bases,
Travis Spinney would score on a balk by HU's pitcher to take a 3-0 lead.
Akins was then hit by a pitch which allowed Simmer to drive in a run a batter later when he too was hit by a pitch.
Swigart would make it a 5-0 lead when he reached on a fielder's choice, which was followed by a double steal as Akins took home.
A Thomas single would cap scoring in the inning as Swigart scored to go up 7-0.
Perez would lead off the sixth with a single and stole second, scoring on a Clay single for an 8-0 lead.
After a Harrison double moved runners to second and third, Akins would drive a ball over the left field wall for his second homer of the weekend and put SE up 11-0.
The Bisons would get a run back in the top of the seventh, but a double play and a lineout to third would bring the game to an end early with an 11-1 run-rule victory for the Storm.
