Savage Storm Splits Friday DH at ECU

ADA, Okla. – Southeastern opened its final regular season series with a 10-5 win over rival East Central, but dropped the nightcap 8-3 to split a Friday double-header in Ada, Okla.

The rubber match and regular season finale is slated for noon on Saturday afternoon.

Luke Thomas and Ty Hanson led the way with three hits apiece, while Travis Spinney, Cade Clay, Micah Simmer and Jake Perez each turned in a pair of hits.

In all the Storm collected 17 hits in the contest.

Hanson and Clay each drive in three runs, while Spinney and Simmer had two RBI each.

Michale Brinska got the start and allowed two runs on five hits over two innings before handing the ball to Hayden Grimes who collected the win after tossing six innings and allowing a run on four hits while striking out five.

Cory Scheibner would record a third of an inning and allow two runs on four hits before Jake Patterson came on to finish the contest with two-third of an inning pitched without allowing a runner.

ECU jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the second, but a Hanson solo homer in the fourth put the Storm on the board and was followed in the inning by RBI hits by Spinney and Clay as well as a two-run Simmer homer to open up a 5-2 lead.

Hanson added an RBI single in the fifth and an RBI double in the seventh to push the SE lead out to 7-2.

The Tigers would answer with a run in the seventh, but Spinney would connect on an RBI single and Clay followed with a two-run single to open up the advantage to 10-3 in the top of the ninth.

ECU would get a pair of runs in the bottom of the ninth to fashion he 10-5 final score.

Six different SE hitters got a hit in game two, while Brett Akins, Simmer and Jett Swigart each turned in an RBI.

Brandon Wolski got the start and took the loss after allowing seven runs on eight hits in 5.2 innings pitched with four strikeouts.

Patterson would finish out this game as well, recording one-third of an inning and allowing a run on two hits.

An Akins single and a Swigart sac fly would stake the Storm to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first, but ECU would answer with a run in the bottom half to make it 2-1

The Tigers would tack on three runs in the second to open up a 4-2 lead, but a Simmer single would cut that deficit to 4-3 in the fifth.

However, that was as close as it would get as ECU added four runs in the sixth to make the final score 8-3.
