SE Drops Series With Game Two Loss at UAM

MONTICELLO, Ark. – Southeastern's late rally came up just short as the 2017 season came to an end Saturday in a 6-5 loss at Arkansas-Monticello in the opening round of the Great American Conference Tournament in Monticello, Ark.

The loss brings the year to a close with a 16-29-1 record.

Cade Clay, Hunter Harrison, Jett Swigart and Ty Hanson each had a hit in the contest, with Hanson connecting on a two-run homer while Harrison and Brett Akins each drove in a run.

Hayden Grimes got the start and tossed 2.2 innings while allowing two runs on three hits with two strikeouts and ended up taking the loss before handing off to Harrison who allowed four runs on two hits in 1.1 innings of work.

Cody Nitson would add a pair of scoreless innings tossed and strikeout three before finally handing off to Jake Patterson who would toss the final two innings without allowing a run or a hit while also striking out three.

A Harrison sacrifice fly would plate Travis Spinney in the top of the first inning and give the Storm a 1-0 lead out of the gate.

That would hold up until the third inning when UAM answered with a pair of runs, followed by a four-run fourth which left the Storm in a 6-1 hole.

SE would kick start a rally in the seventh with Akins scoring on a passed ball which was immediately followed up with Hanson's two-run homer to close the gap to 6-4.

Akins would provide the RBI in the eighth when he hit a sac fly to plate Clay and close the deficit to 6-5, but that was as close as it would get.
