Southeastern Drops Road Contest at ATU

RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – Four players reached double-figures, but Southeastern was unable to rally in the final minutes, falling at Arkansas Tech 72-65 in Russellville, Ark., on Thursday night.

The loss drops the Savage Storm to 9-8 overall on the year and 8-4 in Great American Conference play, heading into a Saturday matchup with Harding at 3 p.m. in Searcy, Ark.

Jett Jobe led Southeastern's scoring foursome with 15 points on the strength of four threes, while A'Torey Everett and Kevin Buckingham each turned in 13 points, with DJ Henderson chipping in 10 off the bench.

The Storm shot 46.4 percent from the field on the contest, besting ATU, while the teams were nearly even in threes, with the biggest shooting difference coming at the free throw line where the Storm hit 6-of-10 shots and the Wonder Boys went 16-of-18.

Adam Dworsy dished out six of the team's nine assists in the game, and was the team's leading rebounder with five boards, matching Jobe's work on the glass.

A pair of Jobe threes out of the gate would give the Storm an early lead which would grow to 12-6 by the 16:21 mark on a pair of Buckingham buckets.

ATU answered with a 17-4 run to leave SE in a 26-19 hole with 7:59 to go in the first half.

The Storm would twice narrow the deficit to three points, once on a Jobe bucket and again on an Anthony Palmer layup, but Southeastern would go to the half down 36-29.

Southeastern took control out of the halftime break with an 18-6 run to erase the deficit and open up a 47-42 lead with 13:44 to play.

ATU responded with an 11-1 run to steal the lead back.

The Storm would twice narrow the deficit to three points, the last time coming on a Buckingham layup with 28 seconds to play, but the Wonder Boys would score the final four points to take the game 72-65.
