Cold Shooting Storm Fall to HSU

DURANT, Okla. – An ice-cold shooting night spelled trouble for Southeastern as they dropped a home conference matchup versus Henderson State 56-49 on Saturday afternoon in Bloomer Sullivan Arena.

The loss drops the Savage Storm to 7-5 overall on the year and 5-2 in Great American Conference play.

Sa'Liesha Hunter led SE in scoring with 13 points, while Ariannah Kemp turned in 10 to reach double-digits and Emem David finished with eight.

The Storm shot 25.9 percent from the floor in the first half and never recovered, going 0-for-5 from three point range in the second half.

Hunter also dished out a team-high four assists.

David led the way on the glass with nine rebounds, while Alix Robinson and Katie Branam each chipped in five.

Southeastern used a 9-2 run in the first quarter to take a 15-9 lead after one quarter.

The lead grew to eight points early in the second quarter, but an HSU rally would close the Storm lead to 25-23 thanks to a pair of Chandler Kemp free throws in the final minute of the half.

The Reddies then used a 12-2 run in the third quarter to take a 42-33 lead before SE got buckets from Hunter and Chandler Kemp to trim the deficit to 42-37 at the final quarter break.

After trailing by as many 10 in the fourth the Storm rallied again with six straight, closing to 49-45 with 4:21 to play on a pair of Hunter free throws.  That was as close as they would get though as HSU held off the SE rally and handed the home team a 56-49 loss.
