Savage Storm Tumble at Fifth-Ranked SWOSU

WEATHERFORD, Okla. – Despite a 21-point effort form Courtney Brady, Southeastern was unable to match pace with fifth-ranked Southwestern Oklahoma State, falling 80-65 on Thursday night in Weatherford, Okla.

The loss drops the Savage Storm to 10-13 overall and 8-10 in Great American Conference play heading into a return home on Feb. 17 against Oklahoma Baptist at 1 p.m. in Bloomer Sullivan Arena.

Brady finished the night 9-of-19 from the field with a trio of three point buckets to lead SE, while Tracy Johnson came off the bench to turn in 19 points in the effort.

Emem David and Ariannah Kemp each chipped in eight points.

Brady, Johnson, and Sa'Liesha Hunter each dished out four assists.

Brady's seven rebounds also led the Storm on the boards, while Katie Branam, Ariannah Kemp, and Chandler Kemp each added five.

SE fell behind 8-0 out of the gate, but a Johnson three would get them on the board and the Storm would chip away and trail 18-15 after one quarter.

Southeastern took a lead early in the second quarter, first on a pair of Ariannah Kemp free throws before the Storm lead moved out to three points twice, the last time on a Johnson jumper at 25-22.

Unfortunately, SWOSU would finish the half on a 14-4 run to take a 36-29 lead at the half.

The SE offense slowed in the third quarter as the Bulldogs pulled out to as much as a 15 point lead before the Storm closed it to 55-42 at the end of three.

Southeastern closed the deficit to 10 points twice in the final three minutes of the fourth quarter, but that was as close as it would get as the Storm would ultimately fall 80-65.
