DURANT, Okla. – After a pair of run-rule wins on Friday, Southeastern found itself in more of a dogfight on Saturday, splitting a twinbill with Southwestern Oklahoma State, winning the opener 8-5 before dropping the series finale 5-4 at the Southeastern Softball Field.
Â
The split moves the Savage Storm to 15-10 overall and 9-3 in Great American Conference play.
Â
In the opener Mykaela Walace turned in a three hit outing, while
Keeshia Thompson,
Sydnee Hinkle and
Brittany Chatellier added two hits apiece.
Â
Hinkle and Chatellier each posted two RBI, while Thompson,
Elexis Watson, Wallace, and
Kendyl Dockter each drove in one.
Â
Kelsey Meeks collected the win after tossing a complete game and allowing five runs on 10 hits with three strikeouts.
Â
SWOSU jumped out to a 4-0 lead with four RBI doubles in the second inning.
Â
The Storm found its answer in the bottom of the fifth, first scoring a pair of runs on a Hinkle double, followed by a Dockter sac fly and a two-run double by Chatellier to open up a 5-4 lead.
Â
The Bulldogs got a solo homer to tie the game in the top of the sixth, but Thompson, Watson, and Wallace would break the tie with back-to-back-to-back home runs to give SE the 8-5 win.
Â
Destiny Riddle, Watson, and Chatellier each posted two hits in the finale, while Riddle and Watson collected an RBI apiece.
Â
Riddle got the start and allowed three runs on eight hits over 3.1 innings of work and took a no decision.
Â
Meeks would toss the final 3.2 innings in relief and take the loss after allowing two runs on five hits.
Â
SE took a 2-0 lead in the first after an RBI single by Riddle and a double steal by Riddle and Wallace.
Â
A SWOSU homer would cut the lead to 2-1, but a Watson RBI double in the third would push it back to a 3-1 advantage.
Â
The Bulldogs would knot the game in the fourth with an RBI single and a wild pitch plating two runs.
Â
Southeastern would retake the lead in the sixth when a pinch-running
Marilyn Maas scored on a wild pitch.
Â
However, SWOSU would get a two-run homer with two outs in the top of the seventh to swipe a 5-4 win.
