Savage Storm Drop Series Opener at HSU

ARKADELPHIA, ARK. – Southeastern took a lead into the ninth inning, but fell in heartbreaking walk-off fashion at Henderson State, 6-5, in Arkadelphia, Ark., on Friday night.
 
The loss drops the Savage Storm to 10-13 overall and 6-7 in Great American Conference play with the final two games of the series slated for a 1 p.m. double-header on Saturday.
 
Austin Ferguson, Easton Elliott, Jett Swigart, and Caleb Dubler each put up a pair of hits.
 
Ferguson, Elliott, Joseph Cerda, Swigart, and Dubler each posted an RBI.
 
Cody Nitson got the start and took a no decision after tossing 6.1 innings and allowing three runs, two earned, on five hits while striking out five.
 
Hayden Grimes came on in relief and tossed 2.0 innings and was handed the loss after allowing three runs on two hits with five K's.
 
HSU got on the board first with an RBI double in the bottom of the first.
 
Swigart answered and knotted the game with a solo homer in the top of the third.
 
Elliott would put the Storm in front with his own solo shot in the fifth, and Ferguson would follow with an RBI double to drive in Spinney in the sixth to make the lead 3-1.
 
The Reddies tied the game with a pair of runs in the bottom of the sixth.
 
SE bounced back with a pair of runs in the top of the seventh, first when Elliott came home on a Cerda single and then making it 5-3 on a Dubler single which plated Cerda.
 
Unfortunately, HSU would get a hit and a walk in the bottom of the ninth which set up a walk off homer to hand SE a 6-5 loss.
