ARKADELPHIA, ARK. – Southeastern used late scoring in both Saturday contests to pick up a double-header sweep at Ouachita Baptist, taking game on 5-3 before winning the nightcap 7-6 in Arkadelphia, Ark.
The Saturday sweep gives them a series victory, their fifth in conference play, and lifts the team past the 20-win mark at 21-12overall on the year and 15-5 in Great American Conference play.
Kennedy Salyers led the way in the opener on Saturday with a pair of hits, while six others had one hit each.
Salyers and
Elexis Watson added two RBI each, with
Augusta Duty driving in one of her own.
Kelsey Meeks got the start and tossed a complete game, allowing three runs, two earned, on seven hits with two strikeouts to earn the win.
OBU scored in the bottom of the first, but the Storm would tie the game in the top of the second on a Salyers RBI single to make it 1-1.
It stayed tied until the sixth inning when a Duty bunt single scored
Keeshia Thompson to make it 2-1.
Salyers added another RBI later in the inning on a single to left which was followed by a two-run Watson double to stretch the lead to 5-1.
OBU would get two runs back in the bottom of the seventh, but the Storm would hold on for the 5-3 win.
Mykaela Wallace turned in a game-high three hits in the finale, while Watson and
Sydnee Hinkle added two hits each.
Hinkle finished the contest with four RBI, while
Destiny Riddle drove in one.
Emily Cudd got the start and tossed 4.1 innings, allowing four runs on nine hits with one strikeout.
Meeks came on in relief and collected her second win of the day after tossing 2.2 innings and allowing two runs on four hits.
Riddle put SE on the board with an RBI single in the first which scored two, and was followed by Thompson scoring on a passed ball and Hinkle sacrifice flying home Wallace for a 4-0 lead.
OBU cut the lead down to 4-3 with three runs in the bottom half of the first.
Hinkle added to the Storm lead with a two-run homer in the third to go up 6-3.
The Tigers would get a run in the fifth and two more in the sixth to knot the game at 6-6.
Hinkle would come through with another RBI in the seventh on her second sac fly of the day, plating Riddle for what would be the game-winning run in a 7-6 victory.
