SHAWNEE, Okla. – Southeastern cruised to a run-rule victory in the series opener at Oklahoma Baptist, but once again saw a team pick up a win in their final at bats, falling 5-4 in the nightcap in Shawnee, Okla.
The split moves the Savage Storm to 31-19 overall and 25-12 in Great American Conference play, with the final two games of the series set for 1 p.m. on Saturday.
In the opener,
Elexis Watson,
Symphoni Shomo, and
Keeshia Thompson collected two hits apiece.
Destiny Riddle, Thompson, and
Mykaela Wallace drove in two runs each, while Shomo and
Sydnee Hinkle added an RBI each.
Riddle collected the win in a complete game, tossing 5.0 innings and allowing two runs on five hits and striking out two.
SE opened the game by loading the bases on a Watson hit followed by back-to-back walks from Shomo and Riddle, setting up an RBI opportunity for Thompson who reached on an error which allowed the Storm to open up a 2-0 lead.
Three batters later Wallace connected on a two-run single to open up a 4-0 lead in the first.
A Thompson sac fly and a Hinkle RBI double would stretch the lead out to 6-0 in the second inning.
Shomo collected an RBI in the third inning with a single to drive in
Kennedy Salyers and open up a 7-0 lead in the third inning.
Thompson pushed the lead to 8-0 in the top of the fourth by stealing home.
OBU would get two runs back in the bottom of the fourth, but a two-run single by Riddle would push the lead to 10-2 midway through the fifth and would hang on to trigger the run rule.
In the nightcap, Watson, Shomo, Thompson, Hinkle and
Karsyn Brigance each collected a hit, with Watson and Thompson each hitting two-run homers.
Emily Cud got the start and allowed an unearned run on four hits in 3.0 innings of work before handing the ball to
Kelsey Meeks who was saddled with the loss after allowing four runs on four hits in 3.2 innings of work.
Watson's two-run homer in the third put the Storm up 2-0, but OBU answered with a run in the bottom of the third to make it 2-1.
The Bison would add a run and tie the game in the fifth at 2-2, but a Thompson two-run shot in the top of the sixth put the Storm ahead 4-2.
However, OBU would get a three-run shot in the bottom of the seventh to hand SE the walk-off loss.
