Savage Storm Women Fall at Harding

DURANT, Okla. – Katie Webb's 20 points led all scorers, but Southeastern was scoreless over then final 4:14 of the contest in a 63-53 road loss at Harding on Thursday night in Searcy, Ark.

The Savage Storm drop to 10-7 overall on the season and 8-5 in Great American Conference play heading into a Saturday afternoon contest with Arkansas Tech at 1 p.m. in Russellville, Ark.

"I thought we got whipped physically," said head coach Darin Grover, "And a big part of that was the boards.  We forced them to miss but they went and got offensive rebounds.  And then we couldn't hit shots in the second half, and when you can't score it puts pressure on everything else."

Webb put up 20 points for the 10th time this season and led all scorers on the court, using a 10-of-14 effort at the free throw line to power her performance.

She was joined in double-figures by Alix Robinson who turned in 14 points on a 4-of-9 effort from three-point range.

Overall the Storm finished the night shooting 29.6 percent from the field, but still connected on 42.9 percent form beyond the arc and hit nine threes.

Briley Moon and Robinson dished out three assists each to lead the team.

Overall on defense the Storm recorded five blocks and snagged seven steals but were on the wrong end of a 59-to-29 rebounding margin, with Robinson's nine boards and Webb's eight leading the team and accounting for 17 of the 29 total rebounds.

HU opened with an 11-3 run to mount an eight-point advantage, but a Haiden Williams bucket would end the run and trigger a 16-4 run in response, capped by a Noel three in the final minute of the first quarter to take a 19-15 lead at the first intermission.

A Webb layup three minutes into the second quarter would put the Storm up by six points at 24-18, but an 8-0 Bisons run would put the home team up 26-24.

SE would twice tie the game as the second quarter wound down, but HU would score the final four points and lead at the break 33-29.

The Storm hovered close in the third quarter, tying the game on a Robinson three with 4:29 to go in the third and again on a Webb free throw with 2:16 to go in the frame at 41-41 before Harding again scored the final four points of the quarter to lead 46-42 heading to the final quarter.

Southeastern made one more push early in the fourth quarter, tying the game at 50-50 on a Robinson three with 8:16 to play.

However, the Bisons would score the next five points and eventually hold SE scoreless over the final 4:14 of the game to pull away to a 63-53 final score.
