DURANT, Okla. – Southeastern heads into the second-to-last weekend of the regular season looking to pick up key victories when it hosts Southern Arkansas at 5:30 p.m. on Feb. 21 followed by Arkansas-Monticello at 1 p.m. on Feb. 23 in Bloomer Sullivan Arena.
Â
The Savage Storm come into the contest with an 11-11 record overall and a 9-9 mark in Great American Conference play and are holding the six position in the conference standings with four games to play, with wins in these contests, or a combination of a win and a loss by Oklahoma Baptist, securing SE a postseason berth in the conference tournament.
Â
Southeastern is looking to snap a four-game losing skid and will be leaning on current leading scorers
Briley Moon and
Katie Branam as the Storm look to rekindle an offense that has cooled due to injuries.
Â
Moon is one of the top-two scoring freshmen in the conference this season, and currently paces the Storm with 10.0 ppg thanks to a 41.5 percent effort from beyond the arc.
Â
Branam missed time and returned to the starting lineup last week and is putting up 9.2 ppg and is hitting 44.8 percent from long range.
Â
In the first meeting with SAU the Storm started strong with a 20-7 first quarter and left with a comfortable 75-61 win, which was on the heels of a 74-41 road win over UAM two days prior.
Â
The Muleriders come to town with a 2-22 record overall and a 1-17 mark in GAC play and are led on offense by Arianna Guinn who is the only other freshman ranked alongside Moon in the top-30 among GAC scoring leaders.
Â
The Cotton Blossoms come into the weekend with a 6-17 mark overall and a 5-13 record in league play and are led by Mackenzie Johnson who is averaging 16.7 ppg.
